First archaeological evidence of native crafts are among the way the Indus Valley civilization back in 3000 BC During this time Indian craftsmen were doing an excellent job in ceramics
rendering of accounts, terracotta, jewelry and weaving. The most important aspect is the technical progress in the field of office now. Archaeologists have excavated many sites like Harappa, Mohenjodaro, Lothal, Chanhudaro, Kotdigy, Dholavira etc and they have found many artifacts that manifest the skill of the craftsmen at the time.

In the Vedic era (1500 BC to 700 BC), much progress was made in the letter. There is no mention of pottery, weaving, woodwork, etc. in the Vedas. Rig Veda mentions in particular the pottery clay, wood and metal. Weaving and weavers, the reference in the sacred texts. In the later Vedic period the most important development was the discovery of iron. This led to the manufacture of iron weapons widely. Craftsmen had a huge display and craft traditions began to be anchored in the social structure.
